Dear Marlboro Community Member:

The Marlboro Elementary School has closed, but the Marlboro School Association has not.

For more than 30 years, the Marlboro School Association has enriched Marlboro students’ education by funding opportunities that would otherwise not be available through the regular school budget. Closing our elementary school changes where our children go to school, but it does not change the children we serve or their need for educational opportunities, experiences, and support.

That is why MSA is reorganizing as an independent public charity so that we can continue our mission of enriching the education of Marlboro students wherever they attend school.

We are also taking on an important new role. For 20 years, the Marlboro Alliance has operated an educational scholarship program that has helped Marlboro students pursue summer enrichment, college, and vocational education. In 2025 alone, the program helped seven college students and 17 elementary-school children with summer programming.

We are grateful to the Marlboro Alliance for entrusting this work to MSA and for working with us to make the transition possible. MSA will now receive applications, select recipients, and distribute the awards. We are working with the Alliance to recreate its application process on this website and expand the program to include summer educational opportunities for Marlboro students in grades K–8, while continuing support for high-school summer enrichment and college and vocational education.

In 2026, MSA matched the Marlboro Alliance’s funding for its high-school summer enrichment and college and vocational scholarship programs. We are pleased to continue this important work and to broaden the opportunities available to Marlboro students.

This new role is part of MSA’s broader evolution. Last year, while MES was still open, MSA funded after-school scholarships, music, museum, and dance programs, a circus residency, a middle-school math curriculum, expanded music electives, Hogback Day T-shirts, and field research.

Going forward, we expect that the opportunities MSA can provide for Marlboro students may include support for:

  • After-school and summer educational programs

  • Educational scholarships and enrichment grants

  • Educational field trips and other experiential learning

  • Music, art, theater, dance, and other creative programs

  • Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics opportunities

  • Books, educational materials, and special projects

  • Tutoring and academic support

  • Transportation associated with educational opportunities

  • Other innovative educational opportunities proposed by Marlboro students, parents, educators, and community members

We welcome suggestions about unmet educational needs, programs that deserve support, or other ways that MSA can help Marlboro students. If you are a student, parent, educator, or community member with an idea for an educational opportunity MSA could support, please contact us via the form on our website.

Our goal for this year’s appeal is $12,000. Gifts of any size will help us continue the work that the Marlboro community has supported for more than three decades—and help us build the next chapter of that work.

Your contribution will help make these opportunities possible. As in the past, MSA will continue to build and maintain its endowment as a permanent source of support for the educational enrichment of Marlboro students. We distribute about 5% of the endowment each year, allowing the principal to grow and provide support for future generations.

The Marlboro Elementary School may no longer be the center of this effort, but the children of Marlboro remain at its center.

Please give generously.

With appreciation,
